Retro RPG Podcast Instead of remembering them, we go and play them.

Random crap.

It has been considered, and while no decision has yet to be made, we may go back to libsyn. BUT ONLY for the use of their stats tracking and storage. Over the next few months, research will be done to see if we cant have our site and libsyn play nice. As in, aside from the download location, no one will ever know libsyn is in use.
The stats service we have for this site is nice, but there is no way i have found to break it down show by show the way libsyn does. Unless of course, someone knows of a WP plugin that allows such tracking.
So let me clarify, libsyn will only be used for downloading and stat tracking. Retrorpg.net will not be going anywhere.

Second: iTunes. WE HAS FIXED IT! no more 1:01 duration being displayed. Expect to see all shows fixed by the end of this week.
And for our fellow podcasters that may have encountered this same issue... Enter the data manually.

Third: WHY THE HELL ARE TOTINOS PARTY PIZZAS SO FUCKING DELICIOUS!?

That is all

Show 16!

No show notes. Because im lazy.

side note: I AM NOT DRUNK! for some reason i sound really drunk at the start of the show.

Contest will end whenever Show 17 is released.

Prizes are: Golden Axe (genesis), Uniracers (SNES), Earthworm Jim 2(SNES) Star Fox (SNES).

The winner gets to pick 2 (two) of the mentioned games. And to throw a wrench into it all, One of these games includes Box and Instruction book.

Sorry for the poor selection, and the random Genesis game, but these were the only quality games i could find this week. Besides, its free anyway.

Show to be relased today!

Neither employment nor school nor sleep nor contest prizes, will stay this Podcaster from the swift completion of his appointed editing duties.

Translation, Show 16 will be released sometime today.

I now anticipate the show to be released on Wednesday for me opening my mouth and jinxing me, therefore resulting in a standard 8 hour shift turning into 16, preventing me from completing the show as promised.

Prizes by the way have been obtained and will be announced when the podcast is up. (sometime today).

Contest Details!

This will all be repeated in the podcast for all you who DONT visit the site.

Another guess what game we are playing. BUT! its more than just guess the game. You need to go out and find a particular advertisement that promoted this game.

The ad has two parts. Each containing a quote. Obviously i can't just leave it at that... Y'all need some sort of clue to get you started.

So! Here it is!

"It doesn't seem fair does it?"

Obscure? you bet! This narrows your choices down to about half the video games ever produced. *evil grin*

Now, this could be the most impossible contest ever, OR the easiest if you happen to know what this goes to.

Now, how do you win!?

You win by being the first to guess the game, AND delivering two pictures. The first picture is the first half of the ad (that contains the quote i gave), the second half has the rest of the quote and another picture. Now, i have confirmed that the advertisement does exist on the Internets. I have found both parts of the ad. So if you cry to us saying you know the game but cant find the ad... Well we will call you lazy. This aint no charity. We believe people should work for what they earn.
And by the way, the answer has to be exact, otherwise you may lose due to a technicality.

This was a print ad. No video.

Prizes? Dunno yet. It will be however a video game of some sort. As stated before, more than likely from the 16-bit era. If there is a winner, i will contact them through email with a list of games. The winner then chooses 2 games from that list. (I will try to keep the games within comparable value relative to one another. Having Secret of Evermore, Robotrek, Phantasy star, and F-Zero mixed in with FF2, and Link to the Past isnt exactly the best way of doing things as the winner is going to pick Link and FF2, since these are the games with the highest value).

The contest ends when we say it ends. The winner will be announced when we record the first half of the show for this game.

Submit your entries via email. Don't know the email? Then LISTEN TO THE FUCKING SHOW! (That reminds me... I need to make a non-clickable image)
If someone outside the U.S. wins, we will do everything in our power to make sure it gets to you. But we make no promises due to political instability, customs, and other nonsense that could result in the mail being returned, or worse, lost.

Now, if i can remember this ad about 20 years later (see what i did there?), i damn sure know someone else can put 2 and 2 together.
Honestly, it would not surprise me if i get an email several hours from now with the winning information.

Oh, and don't beg for clues. Begging for clues will result in 2 prizes turning into 1, or none at all.

Contest time!

Pay attention to episode 16 for contest details. Now what I can say is this, this contest is designed to test your memory, attentiveness, and research skills.

I will warn you all, this contest is not Intended to be easy(or it might be, depending on your memory). We will be looking for a very specific answer.
But the way I see it, if it were easy, it wouldn't be much of a contest now would it?

The exact prize to be mentioned at a later date. It will be a retro game of some sort from the 3rd, 4th, or 5th generation. Somewhere in there. I have yet to pick it out.

Some more funny.

I... I don't even know where to start. Do companies anymore do any kind of QA on their products?
Well i mean, they do, because the product has to at least work to some degree, but they could still take a second (and i literally mean a second) to review the instructions.

I leave this to your own imagination.

And for those of you who must know.
These belong to some faux wood outdoor blinds. This set of instructions belongs to the 96"x72" variety. (And it took me less than a second to see the funny)

And now, for something completely different.

http://arstechnica.com/business/news/2010/03/why-ad-blocking-is-devastating-to-the-sites-you-love.ars

Basically the site states that they are disabling the entire site for people using ad blocking software (ad blocker, no script, flash blocker etc.).
They go on to say that the use of such software is hurting their bottom line and that consumers are bad people that must be punished.

(long winded post to follow. Those seeking cliff notes or a tl;dr version, look elsewhere)

Over 300 years of advertising in American print media (magazines, newspapers, etc.)
100 years of Radio broadcasting
69 years of T.V. broadcast advertising
Some 30 years of internet advertising (both clickable and non-clickable)

and companies STILL have not figured how advertising works? Not only that, but over thousands of years of business, people have not figured out how to treat their customers?

Anything you do that annoys customers will drive them away. If i walk into a grocery store, and i have associates yelling at me "BUY THIS PRODUCT ITS ONLY $X.XX!" Then proceed to follow me around the store demanding i buy certain products (sounds a bit like Radio Shack... And I used to work there!), I'll just take my business elsewhere.
I stopped visiting certain gas stations because of the half dozen or so transients begging for change or "bus fare." Different issue, but same concept.
What is hilarious is that after all these years, managers and owners have STILL NOT figured this out. Instead they blame the consumer. "Ur doin it wrong!" NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! Look at the problem and find out why people are pissed. And people are pissed because they have 34567463 ads being shoved down their face at once. Not only that but these ads are crashing browsers, slowing down sites, and blowing out speakers (and ear drums). My neighbor does not want to hear about how Lysol kills the H1N1 virus, or how Mucinex does whatever it does. AND NEITHER DO I!

The issue is that advertisers and websites that host them seem to think that MY bandwidth and MY machine on MY end is theirs to do with as they see fit. Fuck you! You don't pay my bills!

The best thing about the internet, there is an infinite number of places i can go elsewhere for whatever content i seek.

Many of these sites are setup as hobbies. And last I checked, Hobbies were a reason to spend money, not make it.

There are other ways to make money. And if you think ads are the end all be all way to make money,

[/rant] Here is your soapbox back. I feel better now.

Music page updated.

Music section has been updated. Robotrek has been added, but more importantly the layout was changed a bit in an attempt to make it even more user friendly.

If it looks like ass, let us know. If you like it, let us know!

A bit of behind the scenes.

Our recording method involves everyone recording a separate mp3 file locally, which is then given to me for me to mash together and make work. We talk over skype, but since im an audio whore and desire the best quality, i cannot rely on Skype's quality to remain steady for an hour. Also, by recording locally, i have greater control over each track. Now, this method works for this show since im only editing 2-3 people (2-3 tracks). Obviously this becomes prohibitive as more people are added.

So! here is a shot of what the show looks like before i even touch anything, and the second picture is what the finished product looks like (before it is merged into one track).
Lots of crap is removed as you can see.
